who is cassandra

A daughter of Troy. Priam's child, Hecuba's child. A princess in a city that believed it could not fall.

Apollo wanted her. To win her he gave her the one thing a god can give: sight. She took the gift. Then she refused him.

A god cannot take back a gift. So he added something to it. She would see everything that was coming, and say it plainly, and no one would ever believe her.

She saw the ships. She saw her brother die. When the Greeks left a great wooden horse at the gates and sailed away, she told them what was inside it.

they called her mad. they dragged it in anyway. they had a party.

Troy burned that night. She had said it would.
